RETROSPECTIVE REVIEW OF THE LEGAL BASIS OF THE ADAPTATION OF UKRAINIAN LEGISLATION TO THE LEGAL SYSTEM OF THE EUROPEAN UNION
The article provides a retrospective review of the sources of law that ensured the process of legal adaptation of national legislation to the legal system of the European Union.
It is noted that the law of the European Union is integrative, as it introduces uniform rules for all member states. One of the obligations imposed on Ukrainian law-making bodies is the adaptation of national legislation to the regulatory legal acts of the European Union listed in the annexes to the Association Agreement and in other international agreements between Ukraine and the European Union.
The process of adapting Ukrainian legislation to European Union law began in 1998, when the Partnership and Cooperation Agreement between Ukraine and the European Union, signed in 1994 and continuing to the present, entered into force.
A retrospective review of the legal foundations of the adaptation of Ukrainian legislation to the legal system of the European Union demonstrates Ukraine’s progressive movement towards full membership in the European Union.
